Teaching a class with Community Education

Thank you for your interest in partnering with Proctor and Hermantown Community Education. We are proud to partner with local community experts to bring a variety of enriching and learning opportunities to our communities. Proctor and Hermantown Community Education is committed to meeting the educational, social and recreational needs of our residents.

How do I become a Community Education Instructor?

Begin by completing an instructor application. Once you have submitted your proposal a Community Education Coordinator will contact you with further details.

What happens after I submit my proposal?

Once your application is submitted, it is forwarded to the appropriate coordinator according to the age group you are targeting.  The coordinator will evaluate your application, determine the level of interest they feel your class will generate, evaluate if it duplicates any of our current courses, and check for availability of space according to your request.  They will contact you once their final determination has been made.

If your application is accepted, you will receive follow-up district paperwork for payment processing purposes from a Community Education Coordinator that will need to be completed prior to your first class.

What is a typical Community Education schedule?

Adult Enrichment and Senior Citizen Engagement classes are scheduled for fall, winter/spring, and summer.  Each season typically runs for approximately four months.  Classes may be scheduled for one date or multiple, depending on what type of class you plan to teach.  Classes may be scheduled Monday – Saturday.

Do I need to complete a background check before I can teach?

Instructors working with adults 18 years old and older do not have to complete a background check.

Instructors working with PreK-12 students must complete a background check in the school district in which the class is taking place. The Youth Enrichment and Development Coordinator will coordinate the background check with you and the District Administrative Office.

How many participants should I expect?

Instructors should plan for 8-12 students per class with the possibility of more. A minimum number of participants is discussed and set with the Community Education Coordinator. Please note, we make every effort to get sufficient enrollment in our classes but there is no guarantee.
